This Mother 3 Fan Project Looks Like The Real Deal

Another Nintendo Direct has passed, and we still have no official English release of Mother 3. But in fairness, when the fan translation is so good, do we really need it?

Now, not only have fans beaten Nintendo to the punch with a localisation, they've also shown us what a complete remake could look like. The trailer doesn't represent a game that's actually in development (for obvious reasons), but it does show us what could happen if Nintendo decided to remake the Mother trilogy. It's also a testament to the dedication and passion of the fanbase, considering how stunning and convincing it looks.

This Mother 3 tribute manages to capture the charm of the original game, while still standing out with its own unique artstyle. The new assets and animations look like they're straight out of an actual game, with the animation, in particular, being reminiscent of stop-motion films.

Given how many locations and assets have been created to pull this off, it's a shame we won't see them in action in a full-blown game. But to be honest, no developer deserves the headache that Nintendo's legal department would give anyone who even attempted that.

At the very least, the outpouring of support for this trailer shows Nintendo that the interest is still there. And with EarthBound and EarthBound beginnings now available on Switch, it would be the perfect time to unite the trilogy for players outside of Japan.

While the Mother 3 issue persists, Nintendo has at least addressed one controversy recently – the performance of N64 games on Switch. For whatever reason, some titles available through its subscription service were inferior to their original releases, but this appears to have been fixed with an update that was quietly rolled out yesterday. This update also made The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask available to all subscribers, reuniting it with its counterpart, Ocarina of Time.
