Sage is a Chinese agent in the upcoming Valorant who specializes in support and healing. She wears the traditional white of a healer and has long hair. Her catchphrase, “I am both shield and sword,” is apt because while being a support character, she still has offensive capabilities.
The game will feature two teams of five battling it out in round-based arena combat. There will be five standard characters and five who need to be unlocked. Each character will have two abilities that can be bought at the beginning of a round. They will also have a signature ability that’s charged every round and an ultimate ability that gets charged by killing enemies.
According to Gamerjournalist, Sage is the only healer character who’s been revealed so far. She can revive her teammates when they are down, and also create barriers and obstacles. She also has the power to resurrect dead teammates. The abilities she has to buy are Slow Orb and Barrier Orb. Her signature ability is Healing Orb, and her ultimate ability is Resurrection.
Slow Orb sends out a frozen orb that explodes on the ground causing a field of ice. The ice slows anyone in its radius and causes them to make noise when moving. This ability is fantastic for defensive play and for slowing down enemies. Unfortunately, it also works on your teammates, so it must be used carefully.
The Barrier Orb creates a wall of ice that can be moved into position to block off enemies. Sage can also climb the wall to get a better view of the battlefield. This ability is particularly useful to buy time while she revives or resurrects her teammates while under attack.
The Healing Orb is used to revive downed teammates. Unlike many other games, she doesn’t have to be physically close to the teammate in order to revive them. As long as the teammate is within her line of sight she can send the orb to revive them. She can even use it on herself if she needs to.
Sage can use her Resurrection ability to bring dead teammates back to life. She has to be close to the corpse in order to do this and the person comes back with full HP and the weapon they died with. So far there’s been no glimpse of this power and people are already speculating that it will be overpowered.
Valorant is due this summer with beta testing beginning soon. It’s Riot Games’ first attempt at a shooter, and hopefully, it will be as successful as their other offering, League of Legends.
