The holiday season is just as busy in the virtual world as the real one, and the last of Azeroth is also preparing for a busy winter. That means a lot of cooking, food, extra presents, and probably some fighting. World of Warcraft has a world event to commemorate this special time of year, Pilgrim's Bounty, which bears an uncanny resemblance to the real-world holiday of Thanksgiving.
Holiday Cooking
This is holiday is one of the ways you can raise the Cooking skill to 300, even if you're starting from level one. The dishes for this holiday become progressively more difficult, starting with Spice Bread Stuffing as the easiest at level one and Slow-Roasted Turkey requiring at least level 280.
Seasonal Ingredients
All the following ingredients are required for the Pilgrim's Bounty Cooking quests and can only be found in designated places or purchased from seasonal vendors.
Name | Description |
---|---|
Autumnal Herbs | One of the regents needed for Spiced Bread Stuffing, Candied Sweet Potatoes, Slow-Roasted Turkey. Available only from seasonal vendors. |
Honey | Buy it from seasonal vendors and use it to make Pumpkin Pie, Candied Sweet Potatoes, and Slow-Roasted Turkey. |
Mulgore Sweet Potato | Only available in Thunder Bluff, but among the Night Elves there's a close variation, a Teldrassil Sweet Potato. Buy them from the vendors in either city. |
Tangy Southfury Cranberries | This is what Horde players call them, but on the Alliance side, they're known as Tangy Wetland Cranberries. They can be purchased from seasonal vendors. |
Ripe Tirisfal Pumpkin | If using regents that have been grown in the mists of the Forsaken farmland area isn't appealing to you, try the farmland outside of Stormwind and use Elwynn Pumpkins instead. |
Wild Turkey | The turkey as a harmless ambient critter already exists in WoW, but the Wild Turkey is a different animal that you can target using the "tab" button. It can only be hunted during Pilgrim's Bounty, and they're required to make Slow-Roasted Turkey. |
Recipes
You can learn these recipes from The Bountiful Cookbook, which is available from any of the seasonal vendors that also sell the special ingredients needed for the recipes.
Name | Description |
---|---|
Candied Sweet Potato | Honey and sweet potatoes are both available from the seasonal vendors. |
Cranberry Chutney | Buy honey and cranberries from a seasonal vendor to make this garnish. |
Pumpkin Pie | This recipe requires a Cooking skill of 100 and requires two ingredients. Pumpkins are harvested from certain areas and honey is available from vendors. |
Slow-Roasted Turkey | Just like real life, this requires some skill and more regents than the others. You need three ingredients to slow-roast a turkey but only two for the other food items. |
Spice Bread Stuffing | The easiest of all the holiday dishes, and requires you already know the Spice Bread recipe from the general Cooking skill. |
Bountiful Basket | This doesn't require you to learn a recipe. When one of each of the above dishes is combined in a Bountiful Basket, which is a seasonal item sold by vendors, the result is a feast that you can share with other party members. |
The Quests
Horde and Alliance players do the same quests for the Pilgrim's Bounty holiday, with little variation other than some tweaks in the names. After you finish the initial seasonal quest line, you can do daily quests to keep collecting the unique rewards.
Holiday Quest Chain
Name | Description |
---|---|
Pilgrim's Bounty | This is the "breadcrumb" quest that starts with any random commoner in one of the major cities. It leads you outside to the Bountiful Tables. All the following quests begin and end in the Bountiful Table area of a major city and require some traveling. |
Sharing a Bountiful Feast | The Bountiful Feast hostess, an NPC that only appears for the holiday, asks you to have a seat at the table and sample one of each special holiday food. This also completes one of the holiday achievements and awards you a buff. |
Spice Bread Stuffing | The first of the cooking quests, this is the one that only requires a Cooking skill of one to finish. It also requires you to know the recipe for Spiced Bread, which is the first recipe everyone learns from the Cooking trainer. |
Pumpkin Pie | Once your Cooking skill is up to 100, you can make Pumpkin Pie to finish this quest. Make five pieces or roughly the same as a whole pie. |
Cranberry Chutney | You need to make five servings of Cranberry Chutney, which requires a Cooking skill of at least 160. |
They're Ravenous In Darnassus | The only quest in the chain that has a different name depending on the faction, this quest requires that you make and bring five servings of Spice Bread Stuffing and Pumpkin Pie to the titular city. Another opportunity to grind up that Cooking skill. |
Undersupplied in the Undercity | Horde players travel to Undercity as opposed to Darnassus with their Spice Bread Stuffing and Pumpkin Pie. |
Candied Sweet Potatoes | The next dish to prepare is five servings of Candied Sweet Potatoes. You need a Cooking skill of 160, but after completing the above quests your character should be close to or above that level. |
Slow-Roasted Turkey | The most difficult of the holiday recipes to make because you have to hunt turkeys for the main regent and have a Cooking skill of at least 280. You need to cook and turn in five servings. |
Daily Quests
After the initial holiday quest lines are completed, you can do the daily quests until the end of the holiday. They require much larger portions and are intended to be more of a challenge to complete. The rewards for these quests include special items like clothing or toys that last all year or can be used to complete the achievements.
Name | Description |
---|---|
Don't Forget The Stuffing! | Make and deliver 20 servings of Spiced Bread Stuffing to either Caitrin Ironkettle in Ironforge or Ondani Greatmill outside of Orgrimmar. |
Easy As Pie | Make 20 pieces of Pumpkin Pie for Mahara Goldwheat outside of Thunder Bluff or Mary Allerto outside of Darnassus. |
We're Out of Cranberry Chutney Again? | Cook 20 servings to Ellen Moore near the Bountiful Tables of Stormwind or Roberta Carter in the Ruins of Lordaeron. |
She Says Potato | She says 20 servings of Candied Sweet Potato, to be exact. Bring them to William Mullins in the Ruins of Lordaeron or Jasper Moore near Stormwind. |
Can't Get Enough Turkey | Caitrin Ironkettle or Ondani Greatmill need 20 Slow-Roasted Turkeys to go with that stuffing. Hunting enough turkeys to complete this daily, especially with so many other players attempting the same thing, is the biggest challenge. |
The Achievements
The list for Pilgrim's Bounty can be found under the "World Events" tab of the Achievements interface. There are eight in total for this holiday, and all of them are required to get the achievement of "Pilgrim" which includes a new title and the Plump Turkey Pet. All the World Events reward a title for completing the related achievements, but only this one also rewards a non-combat pet.
For those who are trying to complete the achievement "What A Long Strange Trip It's Been", which awards the coveted Violet Proto-drake epic flying mount, this title is not one of the requirements.
Name | Description |
---|---|
FOOD FIGHT! | Take a seat at one of the Bountiful Tables and pass food around until some goes flying and hits another feaster in the head to earn this achievement. This is intended to be an accident, and seems to happen when a character is being handed something and passing a plate at the same time. It fits nicely with "Sharing Is Caring." |
Now We're Cookin' | There are five consumables unique to Pilgrim's Bounty, and you have to cook several helpings of each for this achievement. Candied Sweet Potato, Cranberry Chutney, Pumpkin Pie, Slow-Roasted Turkey, and Spice Bread Stuffing can be learned from the Bountiful Cookbook and you can grind up your Cooking level by finishing this Achievement. |
Pilgrim's Paunch | As the name of this achievement suggests, this task is similar to the feast many of us sit down to in real life. Finish a complete meal at a Bountiful table, one that includes every dish, which not only rewards you an achievement but also grants The Spirit of Sharing buff. This increases the character's Reputation gains for one hour, and for maxed-out characters doing rep grinds with various factions, that's better than experience points. |
Pilgrim's Peril | Put on your Pilgrim's Robe, Pilgrim's Dress, or Pilgrim's Attire. Once you've equipped your holiday best, travel to the opposing faction's Bountiful Tables and share a meal with those who would normally be enemies. All that's required is that you seat yourself at the Bountiful Tables outside the major cities of each opposing faction. |
Pilgrim's Progress | Complete the five seasonal daily quests to get this achievement. Provided you do the daily quests, you're going to do this anyway, making it one of the easier achievements on the list. |
Sharing Is Caring | Another achievement that overlaps conveniently with a holiday quest, "Sharing a Bountiful Feast." All you have to do to complete it is sit at a Bountiful Table and pass one kind of holiday dish to other players seated nearby. |
Terrokar Turkey Time | Every holiday even in World of Warcraft has a special boss to defeat, and Pilgrim's Bounty would have to have a giant bird. Talon King Ikiss, who is already a boss in Setthek Halls, is the bad guy to defeat for this achievement. The catch is that you have to kill him while wearing a Pilgrim's Hat and one other piece of seasonal garb. |
The Turkinator | Gain the Turkey Triumph Buff, which is attained when you kill 40 turkeys in total with less than 30 seconds between kills. This is also a nice way to get the regents needed for the Cooking quests that require Slow-roasted Turkeys. |
Pilgrim | This is the award for finishing all of the above meta-achievements. After all of the above tasks are done, this awards your character with the Pilgrim title and the Plump Turkey Pet. You can only get these extra features during the holiday, but they can be used at any time during the year. |
