Xbox Series X and S SSD 1TB Storage Expansion Card costs £159 in the UK

A retailer seems to have accidentally revealed how much the SSD expansion for the next gen Xbox consoles will cost and it’s not quite as bad as feared.

The Xbox Series X and S are both cheaper than many people expected but there is one cost that fans have been worried about and that’s the expandable SSD storage card, which Microsoft has suspiciously refused to put a price on.

It’s a propriety device, which means there won’t be any third party knock-offs and it’s expensive to produce, so Microsoft can’t discount it much without making a big loss.

Whether they’ve done that or not though, UK store Smyths had it listed for £159, before quickly removing it again, which is less than the $220 rumour led many to expect.

The listing was noticed by fans on forum ResetEra before it disappeared, although Smyths’ website has been down most of the day because it’s the only retailer, other than GAME, that’s running the Xbox All Access scheme.

Assuming it’s not some sort of mistake though that’s a pretty good price for a 1TB expansion card, something that’s going to be all but a necessity with the Xbox Series S, which only has a 512GB internal SSD and no disc drive.

The Xbox Series X’s 1TB SSD isn’t all that roomy either, so doubling its capacity is likely to be an option many will go for.

The card simply slots into the back of the consoles and will no doubt end up being part of many standard hardware bundles, once the initial rush of pre-ordering is over with.
