Last week, Nintendo announced Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. handheld to celebrate the mustachioed plumber’s 35th anniversary. But the original announcement didn’t show the (tiny) machine in action.
On Thursday, Nintendo released a trailer showing off Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. It starts with a charming look back at the Game & Watch systems of the ’80s, which the new Game & Watch takes direct inspiration from. People in the video then pull the modern device from various jacket pockets, revealing its tiny size. Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. is small, fitting in the palm of an average hand with room to curl your fingers around the edges.
The video also gives a closer look at some of the new Game & Watch’s feature set. While it looks like a classic machine at first glance, it has a modern color LCD screen. The system also offers a cross-shaped D-pad, and a slot for a USB charger. The entire system weighs only 0.15 lbs, with an estimated battery life of around eight hours, according to the Game & Watch website.
Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. comes with Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (Super Mario Bros. 2 in Japan), and a special Mario version of the Game & Watch classic Ball installed on the device. Like the classic handhelds before it, Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. also features a digital clock with “35 little touches to discover,” according to Nintendo, acting as Mario Easter eggs for the series’ anniversary.
Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. will cost $49.99, and will be released Nov. 13 in a limited production run. Nintendo will announce pre-order details at a later date.
