Monster Hunter Rise Is Getting Its Own Amiibo Figures

Monster Hunter Rise, a brand-new entry in Capcom’s popular co-op RPG series, is coming to Nintendo Switch next March, and it’ll receive its own set of Amiibo figures. During today’s surprise Monster Hunter Direct presentation, Capcom announced that three Monster Hunter Rise figures are launching alongside the game on March 26.

The three figures, which you can see below, are the Magnamalo–Rise’s signature monster–as well as the Palico and the Palamute. The latter is a brand-new Canyne companion that you’ll be able to take on hunts with you. Unlike the Palico, which specializes in providing support, the Palamute is an attacker, and you can even ride on top of it to traverse the environment more quickly.

According to Capcom, each of the three Amiibo figures unlocks a special set of layered armor in the game. A disclaimer during the presentation noted that the standalone figures will be sold exclusively at GameStop in the US and at EB Games in Canada. No pricing details have yet been announced.

Monster Hunter Rise was one of two new Monster Hunter games announced for Switch during the September 17 Nintendo Direct Mini presentation. Like other traditional installments in the series, the main object is to team up with other players and take down ferocious monsters together, using the materials you carve from them to craft new armor and weapons. Rise also introduces some new gameplay elements to give it a more action-y feel, such as the ability to scale walls and grapple around the environment using a new creature called a Wirebug.

The other new Monster Hunter game, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, is a follow-up to the series’ 3DS RPG spin-off. Like in the previous Monster Hunter Stories, Wings of Ruin casts players in the role of a Monster Rider, who can befriend and ride atop monsters. The game is slated to launch for Switch in Summer 2021, and it will feature some form of compatibility with Monster Hunter Rise, although Capcom hasn’t shared any further details beyond that yet.
