Nintendo Switch Online will boast over 100 classic games starting May 26. And while Nintendo didn’t add EarthBound and Super Mario RPG like some fans had long hoped, there is an upside: Two games will be coming stateside for the first time. The May update brings color-matching puzzle game Magical Drop 2 and old-school platformer Ninja JaJaMaru-kun to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
The two games will be added alongside three others — Spanky’s Quest, Super Baseball Simulator 1.000, and Caveman Ninja (AKA Joe & Mac) — bringing the total number of Switch Online classic games to 104. This number includes games from both the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Super NES on Nintendo Switch.
While one might say it’s generous of Nintendo to offer such a treasure trove of games for Nintendo Switch Online’s comparatively modest subscription price, many fans are still holding out for a few of those special gems.
Both the cult hit EarthBound and fan-favorite Super Mario RPG were included as part of the Super NES Classic Edition library (and Nintendo’s Virtual Console service), but those games have not gotten a Switch release. Some had hoped that in surpassing 100-game threshold, Nintendo would opt to release something special.
