Sonic Mania, the 2017 revival of classic 2D Sonic, is part of a new Xbox promotion aimed at film fans. Right now, purchasing certain films through the Xbox store will grant you a free copy of Sonic Mania alongside the film, and many of the films are currently discounted.
The sale will run until June 15, and there’s a lot of sales titles featured. Two big recent game adaptations are part of the sale–Detective Pikachu ($9) and Sonic the Hedgehog ($13), both of which are worth a watch. The Resident Evil collection, Need for Speed, and Rampage are also included, along with the (quietly kind-of-interesting) Assassin’s Creed movie.
If you just want the game for as little as possible, and don’t really care about the movie, you can pick up Warcraft for $5. But honestly, you might as well spend a few more dollars on a movie that’s actually good.
The deal is also active in Australia, although the list of titles seems to be slightly different–it includes Joker, for instance, but is missing other titles. This only applies to purchases, too, so don’t expect to get the game for free if you rent any of the titles.
Sonic Mania received a 9/10 in GameSpot’s review. The version included in this deal is the base game, without the Encore DLC.
