The Best Nintendo Switch Grip Gets New Animal Crossing-Inspired Colors

There’s a lot to love about the Nintendo Switch–its portability, its exclusives, its relatively affordable price tag–but for a console that’s designed to also be used as a handheld, there’s a major drawback: Portable mode is just uncomfortable. The flat Switch and Joy-Cons offer very little to grab onto when you’re trying to play in bed, on the couch, or elsewhere, and because of the button placement, it’s easy for your hands to start feeling a little cramped. It’s a little surprising Nintendo hasn’t come out with an official accessory of its own to address this issue, but fortunately, several third-party accessories brands have.

Nintendo Switch grips attach onto the console and give you a much more ergonomic grip when playing handheld, and one of the best Nintendo Switch grips just became even more appealing, as it’s now available in two new shades that are clearly inspired by Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Satisfye’s popular Switch and Switch Lite grips have previously only been available in black or white, but the brand has clearly taken notice of the hype around Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as its two newest shades conveniently match up with the pale green and blue colors seen on the (now sold-out) limited-edition Animal Crossing Switch and most of the game’s other merch. The new grip shades are available in Palm Green and Sky Blue, and they’re available to pre-order now for 15% off, with orders shipping on July 6. Normally $33, you can buy either color for $28 right now, which is about what Satisfye’s grips usually go for on Amazon. The two new shades are only available directly from Satisfye at this time, however.

If you were lucky enough to snag the incredibly cute Animal Crossing Switch when it was being sold, either one of these grips will obviously pair perfectly. But even if you didn’t buy it, these grips are a nice way to add a bit of Animal Crossing flair. Unlike some of Satisfye’s other grips, the Tropical Edition grips aren’t available as part of any bundles with a case, but Satisfye does sell carrying cases separately that will fit the console with the grip attached.

The Satisfye Switch grip is one of the best ones I’ve tried. The Switch simply slides in and is held securely in place by the grip. Two bottom hooks support the console from the bottom and also allow the Switch to stand upright on its own, with enough room for a charging cable to run underneath. I also appreciate how lightweight the grip is–it doesn’t noticeably add to the weight of the Switch when holding it. The Satisfye grip improves the ergonomics of the Switch when playing handheld, giving you a little extra something to hold onto and making it easier to use the joysticks and buttons without feeling cramped.

One note of caution, however: I never noticed any scuff marks left by the grip on my plain gray Switch, but when I upgraded to the limited-edition Animal Crossing model, which is white on the back, I did notice the Satisfye grip felt a bit tighter and left little scuff marks on the back of the Joy-Cons. These were fairly easy to rub off but annoying nonetheless. However, I have the older version of Satisfye’s grip, the Pro Gaming Grip, while the newer version, the ZenGrip Pro, looks to have a lot more silicon padding intended to protect the Switch from scratches and scuffing. Because the Animal Crossing shades are available as the ZenGrip Pro, I still recommend buying it and trying it out for yourself, as Satisfye allows you to return the product if you’re not (excuse the pun) satisfied.
