Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Huge Two-Part Patch Includes A Manual Update

A new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare patch is out now, but the process of updating your game on console this week will be slightly different than usual. Developer Infinity Ward has split the update across two separate downloads, one of which you’ll have to manually start after you open up the game. Without downloading both parts, you’ll be unable to continue playing online, and they can take up a large portion of your storage. Here’s what to expect next time you boot up Modern Warfare on PS4 or Xbox One so you can keep improving your kill-to-death ratio.

How To Download Both Parts Of The Call Of Duty Update

The first part will download as normal on your console of choice, either auto-updating or kicking in as soon as you try to launch the game when the patch is released. From there, you’ll need to launch the game and access any mode outside of Warzone (Campaign, Multiplayer, or Spec-Ops). When hovering over any of these, the game will display a message asking you to “please install Multiplayer” (or whichever mode you have selected). Selecting that takes you to another screen that lists the various components of Modern Warfare, and selecting Data Pack 1 will direct you to the additional download.

On Xbox One, the initial update was 12 GB, while Data Pack 1 was 18 GB. That should give you time to check out the patch notes for CoD’s new update.

When both downloads are completed, you’ll have to restart Modern Warfare for them to apply. If you’re just playing the free-to-play battle royale mode Warzone, you won’t have to start this second download as it only applies to paid content part of the base Modern Warfare package.

This week’s update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is extensive, including a new contract in Warzone called Most Wanted, a playlist update that brings back fan-favorite 24/7 Shipment matches, and the ability to mix and match weapon blueprints.
