Ahead of the new update’s arrival, Activision and Infinity Ward released the trailer above, which shows off many of the new costumes, game modes, and new elements coming with The Haunting of Verdansk. Characters from both Saw and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre are featured predominantly as both Leatherface and Billy the Puppet skins are available through the in-game store. You can get a look at those, the mini battle pass, and much more in the image gallery below.
One of the biggest changes is a new nighttime variant for Verdansk. Certain game modes, like trios, will be available to play at night. Activision highlighted some of the environmental changes that will come alongside the mode.
“Some say that a ventriloquist doll frequently appears on television sets tuned to defunct channels, and the poltergeist of a chainsaw-wielding killer can be seen and heard across the Krovnik Farmland,” a blog post from the Call of Duty website reads. “Others claim that the defunct tracks near the Train Station are still in use by a ghost train, a vessel filled with souls of those who lost their lives fighting in the Gulag…”
Players can earn 16 rewards before the event ends. The trick-or-treat reward system features supply boxes that hold either “frights or … blueprints and personalization items.” We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see what the “frights” include, but players will get a special “Pumpkin Punisher” Legendary Assault Rifle blueprint if they collect all 16 rewards.
Several existing skins are getting special Halloween variants, including the Ghost and Dr. Karlov cosmetics. SAW and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre item bundles include special blueprints and cosmetics on top of the two skins.
The Zombie Royale limited-time mode removes the gulag from Verdansk, having players return as a zombie instead. They can’t use weapons while zombified, but they do have increased speed, improved jumps, deadlier melee attacks, and thermal vision. Players will need to collect two syringes (dropped by players when killed) in order to be revived.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is also getting a special Halloween update with new modes and cosmetics. Players who get three kills without dying will have their heads turn into jack-o-lanterns. The pumpkin will be lit on fire if that player earns a ten-kill streak. Infinity Ward says this will be an indicator of players who “need to be smashed.” Other small cosmetic changes, including scarecrows on Domination points instead of a flag, are coming to several game modes.
Warzone’s Halloween event lasts until November 3 and will be getting new content, like a Nighttime Plunder mode, during its second week.
