Battlefield 5’s next big update will be its last, says DICE

On Thursday, DICE announced that Battlefield 5’s next big update will come out this summer, and will be the final new-content update the game gets.

Battlefield 5’s latest update, Into the Jungle, brought players into the Pacific Theater and introduced new weapons and gear. Into the Jungle is scheduled to end on April 29 with one last update. After that DICE will release the game’s final update.

Unfortunately, there’s no information in the announcement post about what exactly the new update might focus on. DICE does mention that the new update will include “some new content, weapons, and game tweaks.” DICE said that it wants to target June for the release, but with developers working from home, the lockdown could complicate that.

While there may not be any large-scale content updates in Battlefield 5’s future after this summer, that doesn’t mean the game won’t get any updates at all. DICE also says that it’s planning to reintroduce #FridayNightBattlefield servers as well as Throwback Thursdays where it will look back at previous Battlefield titles.

DICE is also continuing to work on Battlefield 5’s anti-cheat system to help make the game more fun and fair. However, the developer doesn’t go into details on the improvements for fear of making the cheating problem worse.

Battlefield 5 was originally released in 2018. In October 2019, EA announced that DICE’s follow up to Battlefield 5 will be released by 2022. According to EA, the new entry in the franchise will focus on live service offerings, will be “cutting edge,” but the publisher hasn’t given any more details than that.
