At Gamescom’s Opening Night Live event, Bungie premiered a new trailer for Destiny 2: Beyond Light. The reveal gave Guardians a better glimpse at Stasis, the first new power set in Destiny history.
The new preview video gives a great look at each individual class, and finally gives us a name for each of the new subclasses. Warlocks wield an ice staff in the new Shadebinder subclass. Hunters wield ice axes with the Revenant subclass. Titans can use the new Behemoth subclass to smash enemies with an ice gauntlet.
The trailer shows off a host of other new abilities, like a Warlock Rift that seems to freeze nearby enemies.
Guardians’ last preview of Stasis came from an Xbox event on July 23. There, players saw some of the new abilities in action, including grenades that can create platforms, and Bungie’s Stasis buzzwords: Create, Shatter, Encase.
Stasis is the first new group of powers we’ve seen, and will sit alongside Solar, Void, and Arc. The new skills will also have a completely unique upgrade tree, something Bungie is experimenting with before bringing it to the other elements. Unlike the other three Supers, Stasis is the power of The Darkness, the antagonistic faction in Destiny. It’s currently unclear how or why players will gain the ability to channel this new element.
Guardians will discover everything about Stasis on Nov. 10, when Bungie launches Destiny 2: Beyond Light for Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One. The studio has already announced a next-gen version of Destiny 2 coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X later this year.
