Destiny 2 guide: Solstice of Heroes 2020 armor upgrades and activities

Destiny 2’s third annual Solstice of Heroes event is here, and it’s brought with it a very similar grind to last year. Players will start off with blue rarity “renewed” gear, and get the task of leveling up to Majestic and finally Magnificent. Solstice of Heroes runs Aug. 11 – Sept. 8.

This Solstice of Heroes, players can make their armor glow without purchasing special items from the in-game Eververse store (the white glow seen above). However, players who do purchase the Eververse glows will get Universal Ornaments — meaning it’s a look players can apply to any armor piece — that glows depending on their current subclass. Bungie will update this glow to add a new Stasis color once it launches Beyond Light later this year.

European Aerial Zone

The European Aerial Zone is a returning activity for Destiny 2’s 2020 Solstice of Heroes. It takes place in a unique area around the EDZ, but you access it in the Tower.

To succeed in the European Aerial Zone, you need to kill as many minibosses as you can in the time limit the game gives you. When time is up, you’ll face off against the final boss. Kill it, and you’ll return to the European Aerial Zone to hunt for treasure. The more minibosses you kill, the more chests you have to hunt.

To open these chests, you’ll need Solstice Key Fragments. To earn the Key Fragments, you need to complete activities during the Solstice of Heroes event.

Elemental Orbs

Solstice of Heroes has a daily rotating elemental burn, which enhances the powers of Arc, Solar, or Void for the day.

Killing enemies with elemental energy drops an Elemental Orb, which aren’t tied to the burn of the day. But if you collect 30 Elemental Orbs that do match the daily burn, you will activate a powerful buff depending on the element.

Here’s what they do in Bungie’s own words:

• Equip your Arc subclass and weapons to generate Arc orbs. Then, collect them to wield their Arc elemental power. While empowered, Guardians move with enhanced speed and deal greater melee and Sword damage.
• Equip your Solar subclass and weapons to generate Solar orbs. Then, collect them to wield their Solar elemental power. While empowered, Guardians emit a burning wave of energy that damages anything around them.
• Equip your Void subclass and weapons to generate Void orbs. Then, collect them to wield their Void elemental power. Crouch while empowered to become invisible and gain Truesight plus enhanced ability regeneration.

Upgrade your Renewed armor

Eva will give you the helmet for the Renewed set first, and ask you to complete a run in the European Aerial Zone. Put on the helmet and complete the activity. When you’re done, come back to her. She’ll give you a new quest to meditate at the Statue of Heroes. Oblige her, and you’ll get the full set. Equip all of it and talk to her again.

Complete the objectives below to upgrade your Renewed set to the Majestic set.

Hunter

• Helmet: Complete runs through the European Aerial Zone, get precision kills, defeat Fallen
• Gauntlets: Complete playlist strikes, collect Solar orbs in Gambit, unlock Solstice packages
• Chest: Defeat enemies in the European Aerial Zone with any subclass, collect any Elemental Orbs, defeat enemies in the European Aerial Zone while using a Solar subclass
• Boots: Complete public events on Nessus, defeat enemy Guardians in Crucible or Gambit, defeat enemies with Super abilities
• Cloak: Complete Adventures, collect Arc orbs from Strikes, complete Crucible or Gambit matches

Titan

• Helmet: Complete runs through the European Aerial Zone, get precision kills, defeat Hive
• Gauntlets: Defeat enemies in the European Aerial Zone with any subclass, defeat enemies with Super abilities, defeat enemies in the European Aerial Zone while using a Arc subclass
• Chest: Complete Adventures, collect Solar orbs from Strikes, defeat Guardians in Crucible or Gambit matches
• Boots: Complete public events on Nessus, collect Void orbs in Crucible or Gambit, unlock Solstice packages

Warlock

• Boots: Defeat enemies in the European Aerial Zone using any subclass, collect Solar orbs in Strikes, defeat enemies in the European Aerial Zone while using a Void subclass
• Bond: Complete public events on Nessus, defeat enemies with Super abilities, complete Crucible or Gambit matches

Upgrade your Majestic armor

After upgrading your set to Majestic, complete these objectives to upgrade to Magnificent.

Hunter

• Helmet: Defeat enemies with elemental damage, defeat enemies in the European Aerial Zone, defeat enemies with Arc weapons
• Gauntlets: Complete Heroic Public Events, collect Arc orbs in Strikes, defeat Cabal using a subclass that matches the daily elemental bonus
• Chest: Complete Gambit matches, collect Elemental Orbs using a subclass that matches the daily elemental bonus, defeat enemies with Void grenades
• Boots: Defeat enemies in Strikes using a subclass that matches the daily elemental bonus, defeat enemies with abilities, kill enemy Guardians in Gambit and Crucible with Void weapons as a team
• Cloak: Complete Patrols, collect any Elemental Orbs in the European Aerial Zone, defeat bosses

Titan

• Helmet: Complete Gambit matches, collect Elemental Orbs using matching subclasses, defeat enemy Guardians in Crucible or Gambit with Arc weapons as a team
• Gauntlets: Complete Heroic Public Events, defeat enemies with abilities, defeat bosses
• Chest: Defeat enemies in Strike playlists using the daily elemental bonus subclass, defeat enemies in the European Aerial Zone, defeat Fallen using the daily elemental bonus subclass

Warlock

After upgrading your armor to Magnificent, complete these objectives to activate the glows on your pieces.

Hunter

• Gauntlets: Complete a Nightmare Hunt on the Moon
• Chest: Complete the Pit of Heresy Dungeon on the Moon
• Boots: Win matches in Trials of Osiris
• Cloak: Defeat the final boss in Altars of Sorrow on the Moon

Titan
