Capcom is planning a big Resident Evil blowout on Jan. 21, including all-new details on Resident Evil Village, the next major entry in the survival horror game franchise. Next Thursday’s Resident Evil Showcase promises a “guided tour” of Resident Evil Village, which means a new trailer and our first look at gameplay.
The Resident Evil Showcase will air on Jan. 21 at 5 p.m. EST/2 p.m. PST. Capcom will stream the event on its Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook channels. The showcase will be hosted by Brittney Brombacher of What’s Good Games, and feature appearances from Resident Evil Village producers Peter Fabiano and Tsuyoshi Kanda.
The showcase also promises more news related to the Resident Evil franchise, as 2021 — the 25th anniversary of the original Resident Evil — promises to be a big year for Capcom’s horror series. In addition to a new video game, a new, original Resident Evil animated series called Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is coming to Netflix in 2021, and a new live-action film is slated to hit movie theaters.
Capcom is also teasing a new title announcement during the event. A closed beta test for an unannounced multiplayer game tied to Resident Evil’s 25th anniversary is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, according to the official Resident Evil website. The beta period will run Jan. 28-30.
Resident Evil Village is coming to PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. While Capcom has not announced an official release date yet, a leak born of a ransomware attack on the company revealed an April 2021 time frame.
