The Call of Duty: Warzone subreddit is saving lives in the Gulag

On Monday, we wrote about a suprisingly effective but stupid tactic in Call of Duty: Warzone’s Gulag, involving tricking players with in-game sprays. Since the Reddit post revealed the in-game trick, several other players have highlighted their own spray-based tactics. But the tables have already started to turn, and players are beginning to recognize the sprays for what they are: an elaborate ruse, set up by some jerk hiding nearby.

In Call of Duty: Warzone, your first death is not the end of your battle royale experience. For the first half of the match, killed players spawn into the Gulag. The game then pits two of these random players against each other in a duel to the death. The victor comes back to life, while the loser gets booted to the main menu.

In Monday’s clip (seen above), a player used some in-game graffiti of a soldier and sprayed it on the wall of the Gulag. When their opponent came hunting, the enemy thought the spray was a soldier, and got executed from behind.

But on Thursday, Reddit user Blitzkriegjro23 posted a 14-second clip (seen above) with the title “sorry guy, I use this subreddit too.” In the clip Blitzkriegjro23 hunts their enemy in the Gulag, and comes across the now famous soldier spray painted on the back wall.

But instead of venturing forward and investigating, Blitzkriegjro23 spins around, takes the long way around a pillar, and finds their enemy crouching, watching the spray — a spider ready to pounce. With the other player so focused on their brilliant trap, Blitzkriegjro23 takes them out with a single shot.

The internet isn’t always the best place to take advice, but sometimes, a clip of the world’s stupidest Call of Duty play may just save your virtual life.
