Warzone players now get an alert when a rival is dropping in overhead and (as is becoming customary for the game) the backlash has already begun.
Warzone might be a small part of the behemoth franchise that is Call of Duty, but in some ways, Infinity Ward is struggling to tread water in the battle royale world. Warzone is CoD‘s best BR offering to date by some distance, but since BR fanatics are a hard group to please, the game has already hit quite a few stumbling blocks since its launch.
Most of the backlash towards Warzone has come after Infinity Ward switched up the game’s modes. It added Quads, which was good – but removed Trios, which was bad. It added Most Wanted contracts, which was good – but removed Bounties, which was bad. The latest update has added new details, and even though it hasn’t replaced something this time, one particular feature is bad.
Warzone players might have noticed that when an enemy drops in above them – it is now announced to everyone nearby. It’s great news for those waiting with a full loadout on the ground, but terrible for the player dropping in. Chances are they’ve just won their way back into the round via the Gulag and will have nothing but a pistol and a dream.
Although getting a second chance is a forgiving element of the game, those who do join back from the Gulag are already at a serious disadvantage. Not only do they have to find their weapons and equip their loadouts from scratch midway through the round, but odds are there will be well-equipped hostiles waiting for them wherever they choose to land.
The addition of that player’s arrival being announced to nearby enemies effectively plummets their probability of survival. This becomes particularly punishing towards the end of a round when the opposition gets pushed closer together. There has been a lot of backlash towards this feature as it appears to hurt the game’s balance rather than help it, so there is hope that it is quickly removed.
