Systemic Reaction, the new name for the studio behind Generation Zero, is working on a new project. The studio released a teaser trailer for its next game on Wednesday morning, as part of an announcement that its parent company, Avalanche, the developer of the Just Cause series, will now be known as Avalanche Studios Group.
The teaser for System Reaction’s new game, which doesn’t have a title yet, keeps things pretty mysterious. It starts out by slowly zooming in on a dark cave with snow all around. In the background, we can hear gunfire that sounds like several different firefights. As we get close to the cave entrance, what sounds like a plane rushes by overhead. We enter the cave and the gunfire fades away, as growls and clicking sounds take over while the screen fades to black. Suddenly, there are flashes of gunfire; the muzzle flashes briefly illuminate horrifying monsters, which we don’t get a great look at.
It’s a simple teaser, but it’s pretty effective. It looks like the game will be a first-person shooter, and it certainly seems to have some horror elements. It even seems possible that it will mix fighting monsters, like the ones in the cave, with fighting humans, since there was so much gunfire at the beginning of the trailer. If the studio’s previous efforts with Generation Zero were any indication, this new game might also include some survival mechanics as well. But for more information on what exactly the game might include — and what it will be called — we’ll just have to wait for Systemic Reaction to say more.
Generation Zero was originally developed by an Avalanche team located in Malmo, Sweden, an office that the company opened in May 2018. It is one of three branches of the newly renamed Avalanche Studios Group. The others are the main Avalanche office in Stockholm, and a New York City-based satellite studio.
There’s no word yet on when this new project might be ready for release or the platforms on which it is in development. Avalanche released two games in 2019, Rage 2, which was co-developed with id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks, and Systemic Reaction’s own Generation Zero.
