Activision has announced that they will be releasing a very big Call of Duty Modern Warfare update this week for PS4, Xbox One and PC. The next Call of Duty download scheduled to land on all platforms will unlock COD Warzone, a new Battle Royale experience for MW gamers. And we know exactly what time it will arrive and just how big that new Modern Warfare update will be.
The good news is that COD Warzone is going to be free to play for everyone on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
This is good news for everyone, as it means player numbers will remain high throughout 2020, even when the new Call of Duty game launches in October.
Activision has also confirmed that Cross-Play will be available from Day One, meaning everyone can play together, regardless of platform choice.
“Call of Duty: Warzone shares Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s crossplay and unified progression,” a message from Activision explains.
“For players that already own the full version of Modern Warfare, all content already earned including Battle Pass items, Operators, weapons and customization items will carry over to Warzone, and all progression earned in Warzone will count toward overall Modern Warfare progression.
“For players who do not own the full version of Modern Warfare, all progress and items they’ve earned in Warzone will be rewarded across Multiplayer and Special Ops in Modern Warfare, should they ever choose to purchase it.”
CALL OF DUTY MODERN WARFARE – WARZONE UPDATE TIME
Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty Warzone has a release date set for March 10, 2020.
That means that by tomorrow night, everyone should have access to the new MW Battle Royale experience.
The good news for Modern Warfare gamers is that they will gain access first to Warzone, providing a few hours before everyone else can jump on.
The official release time for Call of Duty Warzone on March 10 has been set for 3pm GMT, or 8am PT, if you live in the United States.
And while COD servers are expected to be very bumpy following the launch of Warzone, those hours before the F2P launch should provide enough time to finish your download.
COD WARZONE FREE RELEASE TIME
While MW gamers will start their download at 3pm, F2P COD fans will need to wait a few more hours. Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty Warzone will be going live on all platform at 7pm GMT, or 12PT, if you are in the United States.
One thing that should be mentioned regarding this big Call of Duty Modern Warfare update is that F2P gamers will be waiting longer in two ways.
The first will be the later launch time, which makes sense when you consider the sheer demand there is going to be. But the other will be determined by how fast your internet is, and how badly the COD servers are affected.
CALL OF DUTY MODERN WARFARE UPDATE SIZE
The March 10 Call of Duty Modern Warfare update is going to be chunky, weighing at around 25GB, depending on your platform. The download for F2P gamers is going to be much bigger and that’s going to mean a longer wait.
Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty Warzone will need around 80-100GB of free hard drive space on all platforms. It sounds like you’re going to be downloading a lot of the existing Modern Warfare game along with Warzone.
And with the demand that’s going to be pushed on servers, you imagine that speeds are going to be slow.
So even if you jump on straight away, expect server problems on all platforms when trying you’re to work out how much game time you will have.
A message from Activision adds: “For owners of the full version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Warzone will replace the previously named ‘Classified’ panel in the Main Menu.
“A one-time early access will give Modern Warfare owners the ability to download Warzone at 8AM PDT.
“For Modern Warfare owners who are current and have the most recent title updates, the download will be a 18-22GB. Once download is complete, Modern Warfare owners will “unlock” the Warzone panel, which was previously classified, and can enter the lobby and play.
“For non-owners of the full version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Warzone will be available to download free in respective first-party stores starting as early as 12 PM PDT.
“Head to the store and search for ‘Warzone.’ Choose Call of Duty: Warzone to download. Warzone is a 83-101GB download for new, free-to-play users.
“Download could take up to several hours depending on bandwidth, service provider, additional regional factors and will vary by platform.
“You do not need to own the full version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to download, play and enjoy Warzone. Call of Duty: Warzone is free for everyone.”
