Call Of Duty: Warzone mobile game on the way reveals job ad

Activision is working on a mobile version of Warzone, as the publisher accidentally reveals they intend to create a ‘new AAA mobile FPS’.

This week in Major Video Game Secrets Casually Revealed in Job Ad Months Before they’re Officially Announced we have… a mobile version of Call Of Duty: Warzone.

For the first time in recent memory though the publisher has realised their mistake and quickly removed the ad. Although of course the internet, in this case personified by Charlie Intel, was there to copy down the details first.

The ad was/is looking for an executive producer to work on a ‘new AAA mobile FPS in the Call Of Duty franchise’.

There’s a reference to WZM, which presumably stands for Warzone Mobile, but the list of job requirements spells things out more clearly: ‘Harvest, adapt and deliver the essential features from Warzone console and PC into their best mobile instantiation’.

It also requires the applicant to, ‘Improve upon the Warzone formula by proposing and producing mobile-specific additions and changes to features to ensure a best-in-class mobile experience that players will love’.

And if that wasn’t enough the role will involve being the ‘primary point of contact on Warzone Mobile leadership team’. So, yeah. They’re making Warzone for mobiles.

This isn’t much of a surprise as Activision has repeatedly said that Warzone will continue for several years, adapting and changing to reflect new Call Of Duty games as they come out – with the game current transitioning to the 80s Cold War setting of the new Black Ops.

When the game will be officially announced is impossible to guess from just a job ad, but if they’re only just hiring the executive producer it may be a while yet.

Why video game companies keep doing this with job ads is of strange fascination to us, as it happens again and again, and unlike any other kind of leak there’s no chance it’s a fake.

Recently we’ve had the setting of Bioshock 4 given away before the game is even announced, Naughty Dog revealing they’re working on a new single-player game, NetherRealm confirming Mortal Kombat 12, and Bungie going into a peculiar amount of detail on their new non-Destiny project.

Even Nintendo, who’d normally rather send the ninjas round than have a single word about a new project slip out before time, managed to blurt out they’re working on a new Zelda before formally announcing it.

It’s bizarre and Sony should only feel glad that mentioning the price of the PlayStation 5 is not pertinent information for a job ad or that would’ve been leaked out months ago…
