The team behind Homeworld and Hardspace: Shipbreaker is working on a new RTS set in the Crossfire universe, called Crossfire: Legion.
Blackbird Interactive was founded around ten years ago by former Relic and EA developers, and the first game it shipped was Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak in 2016. The team hopes to evolve that RTS pedigree into a more action-heavy offering with Crossfire: Legion.
The developer was approached by South Korean developer Smilegate after its team played Deserts of Kharak. Smilegate was impressed and asked Blackbird to deliver an RTS take on its ridiculously popular FPS series.
Crossfire: Legion features a single-player campaign full of tanks, mechs, planes, trains, jetpacks, and the unmistakable gruff voice of Elias Toufexis, the actor behind Deus Ex’s Adam Jensen – that guy only has to say “let’s begin” in a trailer and I’m like that DiCaprio meme.
Outside of the campaign, there’s the classic multiplayer RTS experience if you fancy going online and getting wrecked by human calculators.
Footage shows large-scale battles with dozens of troops filling the screen with explosions, as well as the usual base-building trappings of the genre. You’ll also be able to take control of powerful Commander units to buff, debuff, and use other abilities that can turn the tide of a battle.
Crossfire: Legion is heading to PC in 2022.
