Fallout 76: How To Complete The Hunter For Hire Quest

In Fallout 76, the quest Hunter for Hire is unlocked by completing the previous quest Wayward Souls, in which you find out about a mysterious treasure and a treasure hunter named Crane. A group of nearby raiders called the Free Radicals have been harassing the owner of the Wayward bar Duchess and her ghoul friend Mort, looking for Crane and this treasure.

Speaking to Duchess after Wayward Souls will start Hunter for Hire. Duchess will propose an idea to find out where the raiders are coming from by pretending to be Crane. She’ll give you the schematics to build a sign advertising Crane’s Treasure Hunting Inc. in your CAMP. For new players who might not have a CAMP, Mort can guide players through the process of setting one up.

Once you have a CAMP set up, the next step is to build the sign. There’s also an optional objective to build a weapons bench in case you want to scrap junk, but it’s not needed to actually build the sign. Once you build the sign (found in the Quest tab of your CAMP interface) and connect it to a power source in your CAMP, it will give you a holotape.

From there, you can load the holotape into a computer in any of the radio towers across Appalachia to broadcast an advertisement for Crane’s Treasure Hunting Inc. There’s a tower just west of the Wayward that works just fine. After broadcasting the ad, return to your CAMP.

Soon, Free Radical raiders will show up in your CAMP, attracted by the sign. You can kill them or persuade them to help you with a high enough Strength or Luck score. Either will give you the location of the Free Radical base, WV Lumber Co.

Return to Duchess, and she’ll tell you to investigate WV Lumber Co. Mort will mention a couple NPCs who can help you get in. One is Liebowitz, who can be found on the roof of the Jar Toss booth at Tyler County Fairground who will give you three Stealth Boys in exchange for getting a deathclaw egg from Deathclaw Island – or you can just mug him if you have 8+ Strength. The other is Daniel, who lives at Anchor Farm and will give you the password to get into the raider compound with a Strength, Perception, or Charisma skill of 3+. The password is “Blue Danube.”

You can either storm WV Lumber Co. by force or walk in the front door using the password. The leader of the gang, Roper, is in the basement of the large building in the center of the compound. You can either kill him, convince him to leave the Wayward alone if you have 8+ Strength or Charisma, or ask him to let you join his crew if you have +4 Strength, Agility, or Intelligence.

After this interaction, return to Duchess to complete Hunter for Hire.
