Update: According to esports consultant Rod “Slasher” Breslau, the GVTV revitalization will apparently be led by Spectator Gaming president Tucker Roberts, who also oversees the Overwatch League’s Philadelphia Fusion. The network will be “based and focused” on the web and will be backed by Comcast.
Original Story: After shuttering the network nearly five years ago, it seems G4 may make some kind of return soon. A teaser made its debut during IGN’s Comic-Con@Home event, followed by the official Twitter accounts for both G4TV and X-Play, a channel associated with G4 Media, have hinted that the network is slated to come back in 2021. How, where, and in what format G4TV will come in remains to be seen.
The minute-long video provides no details. There’s no information on whether G4TV/X-Play will come to cable TV, will partner with a streaming service like Hulu or Netflix, or will launch a YouTube channel. Additionally, it’s unclear if any former hosts will return to participate in this network revitalization.
Former Attack of the Show co-host, Kevin Pereira, tweeted that he was “very interested” in whatever this G4TV teaser is supposed to be. In a follow-up tweet, Pereira mentioned Olivia Munn, a former Attack of the Show co-host who now works as an actress seen in films like Iron Man 2 (Chess Roberts), The Lego Ninjago Movie (Koko) X-Men: Apocalypse (Elizabeth Braddock/Psylocke), and others.
Adam Sessler, former X-Play co-host and games media personality, chimed in, saying he “didn’t expect” to see the X-Play Twitter account. It’s unclear if Sessler will have any involvement with G4TV’s alleged return.
This G4TV revamp was teased while Comic-Con 2020 is still underway. Despite taking place entirely online due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, a lot of entertainment news has been trickling out, including delays of the Avatar and Star Wars movies, the announcement of a new Star Trek animated show, and more.
