When GTA 5 is released on Xbox Series X and PS5 it won’t be exactly the same game as it is now, at least not in terms of GTA Online.
Having GTA 5, which is essentially a PlayStation 3 era game, be the first title you announce for the PlayStation 5 was a hell of a way for Sony to start its next gen hype machine.
Considering the game is still as popular as ever it makes perfect sense but what wasn’t made clear during the Sony reveal is how much the new version of GTA 5 would change from its current incarnation.
You’d imagine better graphics, but while Rockstar parent company Take-Two hasn’t commented on that they have confirmed that it will have new, exclusive content for GTA Online.
There was no description of what the new content is, but it will be released next year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
That means it could be anything from a few new weapons and vehicles to new heists, game modes, or even new areas of the map.
The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 did get content that didn’t appear on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, before they became the primary console versions, but all bets are off when it’s a new generation, so who knows what Rockstar might be planning for the new formats.
GTA 5 will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X next autumn, both as a normal paid-for game and as a free-to-play service that includes just GTA Online.
The standalone version will be free for PlayStation 5 owners for the first three months but other than that both versions will also be released on the Xbox Series X at the same time.
