Metroid Dread Is A New 2D Platformer Coming To Nintendo Switch In October

It looks like the rumors were true – the Nintendo Switch is officially getting a new 2D Metroid game after nearly 19 years. Metroid Dread will drop on October 8 and will arrive alongside a new Samus and E.M.M.I amiibo.

Although we didn’t see much, the short trailer shown off at E3 did give us a look at gameplay – showing off a title that should be a nostalgic blast for fans of Metroid’s 2D, exploration-based games of the past. You can check out the Metroid Dread E3 Trailer below:

Despite some ominous leaks ahead of the event, seeing Metroid Dread in action was a massive surprise. E3 2021 has been fairly light on big announcements – especially yesterday – and Nintendo certainly came out swinging. We also learned that a new Mario Party game is on the way, along with an adorable new entry in the Monkey Ball series.

If you’re an amiibo collector, you’ll also want to check out the two new products launching alongside Metroid Dread – featuring Samus and E.M.M.I, the robot featured in the reveal trailer.

Metroid Dread is scheduled to launch on October 8. After 19 years, what’s a few more months?
