Bit Fry Games, OneTeam Partners, and the NFL Players Association announced a new partnership yesterday to create a licensed NFL game.
Bit Fry Games, the developers of Ultimate Rivals: The Rink and Ultimate Rivals: The Court, brings together athletes across different sports into one game to play hockey and basketball. These games let athletes like Alex Ovechkin from the NHL play with soccer superstar Alex Morgan. This new game will take this formula and bring various athletes to the world of the NFL. The game will release in 2021, and there is no announcement on what platforms the game is coming to, but given the studio’s relationship with Apple, there is a safe bet that it will come to Apple Arcade.
Bit Fry Games’ hockey game, Ultimate Rivals: The Rink is already out on Apple Arcade, and Ultimate Rivals: The Court will be releasing soon. Making a football game is the logical next step for the studio.
“Bit Fry’s games continue to impress, providing opportunities for fans to create virtual team mashups while including the likes of Alex Morgan, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Mike Trout, and Skylar Diggins-Smith,” said Steve Scebelo, Interim President, NFL Players Inc. “As we look for new ways to connect with sports gamers, especially in today’s climate, this is an exciting development for fans and the future of gaming.”
The games that Bit Fry is developing are quickly becoming the Super Smash Bros. of the sports genre. Bringing top athletes from different sports together to play one sport is incredible, considering all the various player associations that these developers have to work with to create this crossover.
The NFL and the NFLPA have been wanting to expand their foothold in video games for some time now. They have Madden with EA but signed a deal with 2K Sports to develop non-simulation games starting in 2021. They also have had NFL skins in Fortnite. Signing an agreement with Bit Fry to develop an NFL game continues this trend.
For NFL fans looking forward to this crossover game, the game will release sometime in 2021. Until then, they can play with their favorite NFL players in Ultimate Rivals: The Rink, which is available on Apple Arcade right now. Ultimate Rivals: The Court is coming soon, which brings the crossover game to the world of basketball.
