Despite all the controversy and criticism from fans, The Last Of Us Part 2 continues to be a huge hit for Naughty Dog and Sony.
To call The Last Of Us Part 2 divisive would be an understatement. Even before its release, there was a very vocal group who expressed sheer displeasure with how it was turning out.
However, it went on to receive praise from critics and, despite the outcry, became an instant sales success, becoming the biggest ever PlayStation 4 launch here in the UK.
And now market research company NPD has revealed that The Last Of Us Part 2 is, so far, the third best-selling game of the year in the US.
It sits behind Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, both of which released much earlier than The Last Of Us Part 2.
It’s entirely possible for the game to overtake its competitors, though that may be tricky as both Modern Warfare and Animal Crossing have been receiving frequent content updates that are likely to encourage further new sales.
The Last Of Us Part 2, in comparison, has been confirmed to not be getting any DLC in the foreseeable future.
The Last Of Us Part 2 now holds the honour of being the third highest-grossing PlayStation 4 game in the US, only falling behind 2018’s God Of War and Spider-Man titles.
It’s likely to hold a similar position in the UK, as the two countries usually have very similar taste in games.
In other sales news, Capcom has shared its most recent sales figures, which show that Resident Evil 7 has broken 7.9 million sales, making it the best-selling entry in the series.
With those numbers, it’s no wonder that the upcoming Resident Evil Village will be returning to 7’s style of first person gameplay and continuing its narrative.
