This Twitter Account Seeks To Unveil Secrets Behind Every Video Game Waterfall

03/06/2020

A new Twitter account continues the incredible journalism of @CanYouPetTheDog by telling us what’s behind every waterfall in video games.

There’s a commonly held trope in video games that says there’s always something behind a waterfall. Sometimes it’s gold, sometimes it’s treasure, and sometimes it’s a secret passage to even more gold or treasure, but waterfalls are always hiding something. And now there’s a Twitter account that will tell you just what that something is.

That Twitter account is called @VGWaterfalls, and it’s from the same person that brought you @CanYouPetTheDog. We already trust this person thanks to their unparalleled reporting on whether or not you can pet the virtual dogs in almost every video game known to humanity, and now that same journalistic integrity is being extended to waterfalls.

The account got started on March 5 with a tweet about a shrine you can find behind a waterfall in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Since then, it’s also touched on Earthbound, Witcher 3, Halo: Combat Evolved, and Super Mario Odyssey.

However, there are a ton of games yet to be given the official treatment. Final Fantasy VII famously has a waterfall that’s hiding Vincent’s ultimate weapon, while there’s a secret room to be found behind a waterfall in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Skyrim has multiple waterfalls hiding multiple chests filled with loot, and Resident Evil 4 has an entire secret passage to the next part of the game behind a waterfall.

The list goes on and on, and you can probably think of half a dozen examples of waterfalls hiding loot on your own. If you can get some footage of one of those examples, you can send it to [email protected] to maybe get featured on this Twitter account.

To be fair to the trope, there is some truth that waterfalls often create caves behind them thanks to water erosion, but they’re almost never hiding treasure. A shame, that.
