Mario Kart Live update brings new courses and items

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, the AR and toy take on Nintendo’s Mario Kart series, quietly got an update on Thursday. The new version brings an additional cup and new items for your racer, according to Nintendo’s support website.

The update is free and adds the Mario Cup to the Grand Prix, which brings three new environments and gates to use in course creation. Screenshots of it from Nintendo Japan’s website show new hazards like oil slicks, rolling barrels, and geysers. Players will also be able to unlock a two Yoshi-inspired Kart designs in the game.

The update page also notes that the developers released “general changes to improve enjoyment of the game” but did not specify beyond that.

To get it, players just need to connect their Nintendo Switch to the internet, return to the home menu, and launch the game. Per Nintendo’s directions, the update will be downloaded and installed automatically.

In Mario Kart Live, you drive a toy Mario car that has a camera. Players race via a live camera feed from the toy that streams to the Switch. Using AR, players are then able to create and edit courses where you drive Mario around their home.

The game is pretty pricey — one car will set you back $99.99, so now those who sunk the money into it will get a few new features.
