Monster Hunter Rise guide: How to create and set decorations

In Monster Hunter Rise, each piece of armor comes with different armor skills. These built-in abilities allow your character to perform actions better, gain resistance against elemental attacks, as well as other benefits.

Most armor skills have different levels of effectiveness. By wearing multiple pieces of armor that have the same skill, you can increase their properties. However, in some cases it’s impossible to max out a skill with armor alone. Instead, you’ll need to rely on decorations.

In this Monster Hunter Rise decorations guide, we’ll explain what decorations are, how to craft then, and how to use them. We’ll go over the process of making them at the Smithy and the differences between the levels of quality in each decoration.

What are decorations?

Once you begin taking on High Rank quests, you’ll be able to forge High Rank armor and weapons. Besides their increased strength compared to Low Rank gear, High Rank armor also allows you to set decorations into them.

Decorations are jewels that you can craft at the Smithy, and they boost different armor skills. You can slot these gems into High Rank gear that has decoration slots. Decoration gems and gear slots come in three levels (1, 2, and 3). Powerful armor skills may require a decoration at Lv. 2 or Lv. 3. Armor skills with multiple levels usually have associated jewels at Lv. 1 so you can use several of them to boost that skill.

To accommodate decorations, pieces of armor — and even some weapons — have different level decoration slots. Gear with Lv. 1 slots can only accept Lv. 1 gems. Gear with Lv. 2 or Lv. 3 slots can accept decorations at their level and the levels below them.

How to create and set decorations

After you’ve unlocked High Rank quests and can craft armor and weapons at that level, you’ll unlock the ability to make decorations at the Smithy.

To begin crafting decorations, go to the Smithy and choose Decorations > Create Decorations.

As you progress through the game and battle more monsters, you’ll unlock more decorations. To create these gems, you’ll need some cash and various monster parts, resources, plus one of two unique jewels: Bloodrun Jewels or Aquaglow Jewels, both of which are rewards from High Rank quests.

Each decoration increases armor skills in different ways. Some armor skills have multiple levels, and each decoration might increase it by one level, improving its effectiveness. More powerful armor skills might require a higher level decoration to unlock a unique skill.

Once you’ve created decorations, you then need to set them into your armor or weapons. To set a decoration, go to the Smithy and choose Decorations > Set Decorations.

To set decorations to boost armor skills, first select a piece of armor. Highlighting it in the first Monster Hunter Rise menu will show you how many slots it has and at which levels.

Once you select a piece of armor, select the slot you want to fill. The level of the slot determines which decorations can be set in them. Lv. 1 slots can only accept Lv. 1 decorations. Lv. 2 and Lv. 3 slots can accept gems at their value or values below them. Some pieces of armor have decoration slots of different values, like you can see the image above.

Mixing and matching armor as well as setting the right decorations can be the key to maxing out different armor skills. Mixing armor and decoration slots can solve unique armor skill configurations like the ones you would need to boost zenny farming.
