Nintendo Is Bringing Splatoon 2's Halloween Event Back This Month

Nintendo’s colorful Switch shooter Splatoon 2 is hosting another encore Splatfest at the end of this month. The game’s Halloween-themed event, Splatoween, is returning on October 30, and on top of that, you’ll have another chance to snag some spooky headgear in the lead up to the competition.

Unlike a typical Splatfest, Splatoween is a two-day event. It kicks off on October 30 at 3 PM PT / 6 PM ET and runs until 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET on November 1. Throughout the event, Inkopolis Square will be decked out with Halloween-inspired decorations, and characters will be dressed in costumes.

Like the previous Splatoween, this month’s event pits Team Trick against Team Treat. The latter emerged victorious the first time around, but players will have a chance to rewrite history this month. To participate in the event, choose your side from the voting terminal in Inkopolis Square and then jump into Turf War matches throughout the event period.

Everyone who participates in Splatoween will take home Super Sea Snails after the Splatfest ends. These can be used to add new ability slots to a piece of gear or re-roll one that has already been maxed out, making them very valuable.

Ahead of Splatoween, Nintendo is once again giving out some Halloween-themed gear for the game. You’ll be able to claim four pieces of headwear from the Switch News channel: the Kyonshi Hat, Li’l Devil Horns, Hockey Mask, and the especially stylish Anglerfish Mask. These were also given out ahead of the previous Splatoween event, and they periodically appear in SplatNet 2’s gear shop with different abilities attached.

Nintendo has been holding a handful of Splatfest reruns this year, but there’s one brand-new Splatfest also scheduled for the game. In January, Splatoon 2 will host a special Mario-themed Splatfest in celebration of the series’ 35th anniversary. That event will pit two of Mario’s most iconic power-ups against each other: Super Mushroom vs. Super Star.
