Super Mario 3D World on Switch will add online play, photo mode

When Super Mario 3D World makes the leap from Wii U to Nintendo Switch in February, it will add more than just the Bowser’s Fury bonus adventure. The Switch port of Super Mario 3D World will also feature some welcome new additions, including online cooperative play, a photo mode, and faster movement for Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad.

In a new video overview trailer for Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, Nintendo detailed what’s new in the 3D platformer. Online play for up to four friends is new to Super Mario 3D World, and it requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Snapshot mode will let players pause the action, take pictures, apply visual filters, and decorate the world with collectible stamps. And Nintendo fans who played 3D World on Wii U will notice that Mario and friends move considerably quicker than they did in 2013.

Nintendo also dives into details on Bowser’s Fury, revealing that a second player can assume the role of Bowser Jr. for two-player cooperative action. We also get some story insight into why Bowser’s so dang angry and large, and meet the Giga Bell that causes Cat Mario to go super saiyan in Bowser’s Fury.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is coming to Nintendo Switch on Feb. 12. The original Super Mario 3D World was released in 2013 for Wii U. The four-player co-op platformer was one of the best games of that year (and one of the best Super Mario games of all time).
