Grand Theft Auto’s inclusion of sex workers has a long-standing infamy thanks to players who supposedly kill the NPCs for money, but in modern games, such violent tendencies have subsided — it’s hardly the best way to make cash. Recently, however, GTA Online cheaters have brought the gruesome murder practice back.
In early 2020, players discovered that they could use sex workers for a glitch that allows them to duplicate rare cars. In the first iteration, players would pick up a sex worker in a car at night time, and then wedge that vehicle between a Mobile Operations Center (MOC), and a third car. The goal was to make it impossible for the sex worker to vacate the car.
From there, players would go into a garage, hop into the car they wanted to clone, and drive it toward the triangle of vehicles they set up. The players would then shoot the sex worker, store their car into the MOC, and then drive back out. If done successfully, the players could duplicate their equipped car, with a second vehicle of the same type now appearing in the original garage. As of early March, players reported that Rockstar patched the exploit out. Rockstar did not respond before publication time.
It didn’t take long for players to find a workaround to the patch. It works mostly in the same way — players grab a sex worker and park the car in a way that makes vacating impossible. From there, players will often shoot the hood of the car with the sex worker still in it until the vehicle catches fire. Players will then call their insurance company in-game, head into the garage with the car they want to duplicate, drive it out, and then murder the sex worker. The car and the sex worker will disappear, leaving the player to go inside the MOC to duplicate the car.
The exact steps to trigger the workaround vary from tutorial to tutorial, but they always involve a sex worker trapped in a car that gets shot, as you can see in the video below by East Kentucky Outlaw

According to data miner Tez2, Rockstar’s fix for the initial exploit simply killed the sex worker to prevent the glitch from triggering, because for whatever reason, it requires the sex worker to be alive. “So the glitchers just set the car on fire so that they can use the glitch while she’s dying,” Tez2 explained to Polygon.

GTA Online players sometimes go through great lengths to duplicate cars, which can then be sold for vast sums of money. The sex worker glitch has gained prominence recently because it is reportedly simple and straightforward to enact despite its morbidness.
