Believe it or not, New Horizons’ resident entomophobe Blathers doesn’t find all bugs disgusting. Although he might be terrified when first handed one, there are some that he’s quick to compliment if given the chance.
Typically, Blathers is one excited owl when the local museum receives a new donation. Fish? Loves ’em. Fossils? Has to have ’em. But bugs? Not happening. Heck, you don’t even have to donate the bug to him — just show it off in front of him and he’ll start to panic.
But Blathers is an owl of science. He understands that while bugs are vile creatures, some of them are still beautiful. Take the Madagascan sunset moth. While Blathers still isn’t fond of the flying monstrosity, he is quick to put his feelings aside. Here’s what he has to say on the topic:
Considering one third of the museum Blathers works in consists of the creepy crawlies, we must commend his dedication to cataloguing everything found on our island. The academic owl is probably terrified of the entire left wing of the museum, yet faithfully displays every last bug we throw at him.
Players can take some solace in the fact that the beautiful Madagascan sunset moth is one of the few insects that Blathers won’t have nightmares about. It’s probably in poor taste to ask an entomophobe for more information about insects, but in this case, Blathers doesn’t seem to mind.
For all his bravery, Blathers’ museum will be receiving a bunch of new content later this month. Players will be able to explore an all new art gallery wing and — from May 18 to May 31 — they can celebrate International Museum Day by participating in the Stamp Rally. In the meantime, try not to bother our feathered friend. And if you do feel the need to donate some bugs, don’t force Blathers to give you a lecture on the topic. He might be knowledgeable about everything, but that doesn’t mean he wants to talk about it.
