Space Jam: A New Legacy, the sequel to the iconic ’90s sports comedy with Looney Tunes characters, is getting a video game tie-in. Space Jam: A New Legacy – The Game will launch exclusively as part of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Perks program on July 1. It will become free-to-play on the Microsoft Store on July 15, according to a the trailer.
The game is a pixelated beat-’em-up being made by Digital Eclipse that’s reminiscent of arcade games from the ’90s era, when the first movie came out. The trailer shows part of the cast from Space Jam: A New Legacy. There’s LeBron James, who stars in the new movie, along with Bugs Bunny and Lola Bunny. We can see James beating up a robot with a whirlwind uppercut and Bugs doing a mid-air kick.
In the trailer, Bugs explains that the game was made as part of a contest where people submitted their ideas for an original Space Jam game.
Warner Bros. has also announced a collaboration with Xbox to reveal three new Space Jam-themed controllers in anticipation of the new movie. There’s a blue and “carrot orange” Tune Squad one, a purple and black Goon Squad one, and a blue and black one inspired by the fictional digital world of the Warner 3,000 Entertainment Server-verse.

Space Jam: A New Legacy is the follow-up to the original Space Jam movie that came out in 1996. In April, Warner Brothers released a first look at James and the full cast of the new movie. The new movie, which embraces a modern 3D animated look, will be released in theatres and on HBO Max on July 16.
The original Space Jam and all of its marketing has since been tinged with nostalgia. When the first Space Jam came out, Warner Bros. unrolled a promotional website that still lives on to this day. The game continues the tradition of quirky companions for the new movie series.
