The ballooning size of Call Of Duty installations has made it impossible to have all the games at once on a standard 500GB PS4.
The start of Season 2 of Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone is all very exciting but it does come with some difficult decisions: what other games are you going to delete to make room for it?
Activision themselves have warned that if you have a standard PlayStation 4 with a 500GB hard drive there’s not going to be room for it, Warzone, and Modern Warfare.
2019’s Modern Warfare is getting on a bit now, so that is the obvious choice to remove, but it’s a decision that many fans are getting fed up with having to make.
‘Those who own a standard PlayStation 4 with a default hard drive of 500 GB may need to make room if they have the full versions of Modern Warfare/Warzone and Black Ops Cold War with all modes and packs installed’, warns the official blog.
‘Should you have both games installed and have kept up to date with updates, you may need to delete some unused Game Content to have a successful download and install of the Warzone patch tonight’, it adds.
What always makes the situation more difficult is that the space needed to download the update is often more than the install size, with the game warning that over 100GB of empty space is needed before you can download the significantly smaller 17GB files.
This is especially irritating with the PlayStation 5, since you can’t move games off its internal SSD, although you can store them on external drives and bring them back later.
You can also uninstall certain parts of the game, like the story campaign, that you don’t play anymore, but it’s still all a bit of a faff.
The blog explains exactly how to uninstall specific components, as well as providing download sizes for all the different versions on different formats.
