Bravely Default 2: A Guide To Jobs and Sub-Jobs

Bravely Default 2 follows the same path as its predecessors in that it offers players a myriad of jobs to choose between so that they can build their own custom parties. As you play through the game, you will collect Asterisks that allow you to become a new job.

As well as main jobs, there are also sub-jobs that you can equip to utilize the best of two jobs at the same time. For everything you need to know about jobs, sub-jobs, and which roles are available in the game, we’ve got everything covered right here.

What Are Jobs and Sub-Jobs?

Jobs dictate a character’s stats, abilities, and passive abilities. You can change your characters’ jobs from the main menu at any time other than while in battle. You can unlock new jobs by collecting Asterisks, most of which will be unlocked via the storyline, but a couple of jobs are entirely optional, and obtaining them requires you to complete certain side quests.

Main jobs that are assigned to characters will continue to level and see an increase in stats and skills until the maximum level is reached (level 12). Sub-jobs do not level at all while being used but allow access to the active and passive abilities of its role. To ensure your character is the most efficient it can be, players should level up the job they intend to use a sub-job by temporarily having it set as their main job. That way, you can benefit fully from all of the abilities and passive abilities of both main and sub-job.

Parties should be built to encompass a variety of jobs and fulfill different roles, such as a healer, a tank, and some damage dealers. Or alternatively, you can swap out some damage dealers with some support roles that can buff the party, or debuff the enemy.

Once players have learned a passive ability on a job, they can equip it as one of their passive abilities regardless of whether they have that job equipped as a main, a sub-job, or not at all. This means you can mix and match to get the best passive abilities for each character.
