Hitman 3 will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store on Windows PC when the game launches in January 2021, developer IO Interactive announced Thursday. IO’s deal with Epic, which lasts 12 months, “has given us the freedom to create Hitman 3 exactly as we imagined and self-publish the game to our players directly,” the studio said in a statement.
The Hitman developer added, “It’s also important to us that we honour the time our existing PC players have spent in our previous games.” Players on PC will be able to carry over progression from Hitman 2 on Steam to Hitman 3 on the Epic Games Store, and they’ll also be able to import locations from Hitman and Hitman 2 to Hitman 3.
Hitman 3 is also coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X next year. IO announced in June that players will be able to import locations from the first two games into the third, resulting in “all 20+ locations from the entire trilogy in one place.” Players on all platforms will likewise be able to import progress from Hitman 2 into 3.
Alongside the Epic Games Store announcement, IO Interactive revealed a new location coming to Hitman 3: Dartmoor, England. Players can explore Dartmoor’s historic, rural countryside and piece together a murder mystery at Thornbridge Manor, where they’ll “take on the role of detective to solve a murder and eliminate your target.”
Hitman 3’s other announced location, Dubai, was unveiled in June during Sony’s PlayStation 5 reveal event. Earlier this month, IO announced that Hitman 3 will also support virtual reality headsets for immersive first-person assassinations.
Finally, Epic Games Store customers will be be able to get Hitman, the 2016 reboot of the franchise, for free. Epic and IO are giving away the game from Aug. 27 to Sept. 3 via the Epic Games Store.
