The Nintendo Switch is currently seeing a major shortage, the likes of which we haven’t seen since its release in 2017. People are clamoring to get their hands on the console, most likely due to being stuck inside because of the coronavirus pandemic as well as the timely release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The $300 console is currently sold out pretty much everywhere, unless you’re looking to pay $400 or $500 for the system on its own. However, GameStop is now offering “starter bundles” for the Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite–unfortunately, if you’re interested in just the console by itself, you may end up with a bunch of stuff you don’t want.
Last week, GameStop was offering a Nintendo Switch with a physical copy of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, and a code for $20 Eshop credit, all for $450. That bundle soon sold out, but another Nintendo Switch bundle has been restocked this week. The new bundle includes the Switch console (new model, with options for both gray and red/blue Joy-Cons), a Switch Pro Controller, and three games: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and a digital copy of Minecraft. The bundle is selling for $500, which is $20 less than the cost of all these items at full price. However, GameStop is also selling Breath of the Wild for $40 on its own right now, and the Pro Controller is regularly on sale for $59 at Amazon (although sold out right now), so the bundle isn’t exactly saving you money.
The catch, of course, is that the Nintendo Switch can’t easily be bought for $300 on its own anywhere right now. So if you’re looking to get your hands on this console and are interested in two of the console’s best games–New Horizons and Breath of the Wild–this is still a solid choice, considering the circumstances.
According to the GameStop listing, the Nintendo Switch starter bundle will ship by April 30. These days, many non-essential goods are seeing major delays in delivery, so a guaranteed ship date of April 30 isn’t terrible. You won’t be charged for your order until the bundle ships.
The Switch Lite is still in stock at a few retailers, but GameStop also has some starter bundles available for the smaller, handheld-only system. The Switch Lite starter bundles include Animal Crossing: New Horizons, $20 Eshop credit, and screen protectors. The bundles are available for $290; once again, that’s the exact value of the items included. Three Switch Lite colors are available as bundle offers: Yellow, Turquoise, and Gray. The Switch Lite bundles ship within 24 hours, according to the listings.
GameStop is also offering Switch Lite “basics bundles” for $230 that include the system, $20 Eshop credit, and screen protectors.
According to Nintendo, Switch consoles will be restocked in the near future, but there’s no word on exactly when that will be. “Nintendo Switch hardware is selling out at various retail locations in the US, but more systems are on the way. We apologize for any inconvenience,” Nintendo told GameSpot in an email statement. Hopefully, we start seeing the system back in stock at retailers soon.
